Lumbar Spine Procedures

Front Range Center for Brain & Spine Surgery specializes in the comprehensive treatment of problems of the lumbar spine. Depending on the severity of the problem, our first approach is typically nonsurgical care. If necessary, lumbar spinal surgery focuses on the treatment of issues with the spinal bones including vertebrae, discs or nerves of the lower back.

“We try to make patients get up and get going after surgery…Generally, people feel better if they get going quickly; their anesthesia wears off faster and they feel less sore…I try to get them back to work within a week or ten days depending on their job duties…” – Dr. Wirt

Cervical Spine Procedures

Our physicians know that surgery is not right for every case. Cervical spine surgery is typically performed to treat nerve/spinal cord compression or spinal instability. The two procedures are often combined for optimal results.

The primary goals of surgery include:

  • Improving neck pain
  • Maintaining stability of the spine
  • Improving alignment of the spine
  • Preserving range of motion in the neck

“Treating this is usually a surgical problem if they have been through a fair amount of conservative care… Again, patients can get back to normal activity pretty quickly while their fusion is fusing…” – Dr. Wirt

“Not everybody that has chronic back pain needs a lumbar fusion. Generally fusions are going to work well for people if you can narrow it down to one or two levels…” – Dr. Turner
